[Not often that she works with a willing sidekick. Most officers are just obligated by departments.]

[They don't have to go far to find more wriggling and searching vines creeping through the residential zone. Fortunately, it doesn't look like they had anyone trapped.]

Take care of the ones on the left!

[trenchdoting]

[Gumshoe, on the other hand, seems to be used to working in deference to someone quite younger than him. It probably helps that she's the same age as Franziska von Karma.]

You got it, pal!! Here I go! [Just call him Detective Torchshoe! Because there he goes, wildly torching at the vines in question!]

[pishirogane]

[Naoto's not going to wait and watching to make sure the vines go up - she has to trust Gumshoe to igniting them. She needed to be careful with utilizing the acid, making sure that the splash only got the vines with minimal damage to the floor and move to catch the ones in retreat.]

[They were plenty aware of the assault, and appear to shortly be giving up on their retreat in order to fight back.]

[trenchdoting]

So far so good, pal!! [Gumshoe exclaims amidst his torching. The vines he targets are burnt and pull back, although he's a bit excessive with it - to the point where he has to stomp out a few lingering flames with his foot.]

M-mostly good!! Everything's under control! [He has to make a good impression for the younger generation!]

[pishirogane]

[She can't yet spare the time to look over at him, taking care of her growing vine problem.]

Keep at it then! [That one got too close to her face, but at least she got some acid on it before it got away.]

[trenchdoting]

Oh, I'm keepin' at it alright, pal! [The closest vines - and the resulting flames - have been put out! And his trenchcoat's just a little singed in the process. He looks over towards Naoto just to check up on her.]

Y-you doing alright over there?!

[pishirogane]

[Standing before several shriveling vines, Naoto glanced back. A few holes near her sleeves somehow, but she nods.]

I'm fine! Duck!

[trenchdoting]

Um, sure!! [He doesn't waste another moment in ducking down! And he has his torch at the ready, just in case!]

[pishirogane]

[Vines barely swish over his head, narrowly missing his hair. Naoto's having her own issues with a close encounter that Dick better act fast.]

[trenchdoting]

Whoa pal!!

[He's acting fast, alright! As the vines swish by his hair, he ducks down further and raises the torch, blasting out a burst of flames to burn those vines! Then he rolls to the side to keep any more of the fire from getting on him, and towards Naoto!]

[pishirogane]

[There go the vines inside the flames, whatever survives curling away. They're not leaving, but lingering, waiting... same with the batch Naoto manages to spook off. She steps towards Gumshoe.]

We must be nearing a core...

[trenchdoting]

[He takes a moment to catch his breath as he gets back on his feet. He then clutches the torch warily while looking towards the lingering vines.]

Yeah... It definitely looks like we're getting in deep. It's only gonna get tougher from here, pal! Do you think we can take it?

[pishirogane]

... Depends. Are you willing to press forward? I can clear a path so you can escape or so we can deal with this core.

[The vines are hesitant, but they wouldn't be for long...]

[trenchdoting]

[It is kind of scary... but Gumshoe braces himself and pumps himself up.]

Of course I am, pal! If you're ready to do this, then I'm not about to leave you to take this on all by yourself! I've gotta represent the older generation, after all! [He adds that lightly as he looks ahead.]

[pishirogane]

... Stay low for a moment, and don't ask questions until later.

[She needs to make more space so they can counter.]

[trenchdoting]

...Got it, pal. [He nods along obediently and hunches over somewhat, on standby until further notice.]

[pishirogane]

[Well, time to see Chroma and its application to something else. It wasn't the other world, but Senpai said it would work.]

[Raising a hand, she was surprised to find the card manifest itself and appear before her, landing in her grasp. It had been a while since she'd done this at all, but she still remembered - felt the power stirring in her soul. She made no special motions and stood calmly, applying pressure until the card shattered like glass.]

Yamato-Sumeragi...

[It's not longer just the two of them, but three; the third entity soaring and cutting away vines as it darts with its sword flourishing. The vines were cut back and then some, flames erupting to consume powder and secretions before it could land on them. And as suddenly as they were their, they're gone, giving the two room to act themselves.]

[trenchdoting]

[Well... that sure is a thing.

Gumshoe stares, dumbfounded and somewhat frightened by the third being that suddenly appears and attacks the vines. He's a bit slow to move afterwards.]

Wh-what the heck... Can I ask questions now?! [He says with a gasp.]

[pishirogane]

Once the core is destroyed, you can ask without interruption.

[She had only bought them time and her eyes were roaming, trying to pinpoint the core here which would be the origin of the growth. Red flowers beginning to bud, vines spreading back out...]

... There!

[The was a mass of vines knotted together obscuring a glowing point inside and all the vines just previously severed were starting to grow out from it again.]

[trenchdoting]

I-if you say so, pal!

[He reluctantly concedes, but he gets it. The mission's the most important part right now. And his gaze quickly narrows in on the 'core' as it's pointed towards him.]

Oh man! You're right, that's gotta be it. [He clutches his torch in preparation.] How should we do this... acid, then fire?

[pishirogane]

I think so. And if that doesn't work, we'll reverse the order, but expect a retaliation before we get that second shot.

[Speaking about shot, she could try... but she only had so much ammunition. She shifts, acid container ready.] Let's end this.

[trenchdoting]

[He nods.]

Got it. We'll just have to take our best shots, pal!! Here we go!

[He's all pumped up now and ready for action! He'll follow Naoto's lead - and be ready to follow up on her acid with some fire!]

[pishirogane]

[Charging towards the knotted roots, the rest of the vines are quickly trying to regrow. However, there's a lack of Chroma between herself and Gumshoe that impedes the attempt. Raising her arm and swinging, the acid splashes upon the knot with a hiss and plenty of flailing. It doesn't completely expose the core, but if Gumshoe can aim, he could hit it.]

[trenchdoting]

[He moves right in her footsteps and is fully prepared to play out his part! He watches as the acid lands, and the knot writhes. Now it's his time.]

As they say... 'fire'! [With that totally cool one-liner, Gumshoe tries to aim directly at the core, and fires! He might not use his gun often, but he's still had enough target practice that he might just nail it!]

[pishirogane]

[Would it hit, would it miss? What would happen in those few seconds of the torch blasting the core. Would it be enough? Would it only incise the plant?]

[But with a squeal, fluttering vines, and pop, the core ruptures beneath the fire. The vines once tethered securely around it still, shrivel, and proceed to falling apart. What doesn't drop folds, and what was so close to the core catches and burns.]
