Personality: Though Naoto is one of the younger characters, she's also one of the more mature individuals. It's revealed after her rescue that, due to the loss of her parents and pride in her family name, she became determined to fill what voids she could - primarily, filling in for her father since he could no longer uphold the 5th Generation title of Shirogane and succeeding her Grandfather. Because of her tenacious nature, Naoto does reach her goal at an early age, but at the cost of socially isolating herself from kids her age. Unfortunate too was that adults she often aided when she began detective work didn't take her seriously either, further pushing her out from many social circles.
Many of these failed interactions led to a majority of Naoto's insecurities and inability to easily trust people. While initially received as a cold character by the cast, it's shown that - just as she turned cold in her efforts to connect with people by the time of her introduction - no one else has attempted to get to know her either. She doesn't know how to respond to their invitation to hang out with them like during the school trip to Iwatodai and Tatsumi Port Island. Even when she goes missing during September, no one in Inaba knows enough about her for her dungeon to immediately be found. Once she is found in danger, she still tries to pretend she's in some semblance of control to hide how terrified she is.
She doesn't like not being in control and she doesn't like being belittled either, both which can lead to 'childish' outbursts. From her height to her age to her sex, people have always found reasons to discredit her one way or another, and after practical methods didn't work, she went more extreme. It doesn't help either that the detective she wanted to be was often portrayed as male in many novels she grew up reading. Various points during her Social Link, she talks about her destructive attempts to change herself physically and mentally in order to be taken seriously on plenty of occasions, going so far as to hating her gender and sacrificing her connections with things she enjoyed from her childhood like tokusatsu shows in order to gain other's acceptance. It even puts her original love and respect for her profession in danger. She's someone who's been torn apart by a traditional society, but with assistance, has been put back together.
Though Naoto remains serious and appropriately wary of individuals she doesn't know, but once the Investigation Team (the Main Character specifically via Social Link) befriends her, she gradually develops to where she accepts who she and is determined to prove herself once again without using so many destructive measures to herself. It's worth remembering that anything she did previously was often in response to her desire and determination to be the novel male detective she grew up reading. However, once her loyalty is earned and she realizes the kind of person she wants to be, she allows herself to relax and be the child she's bottled up around her friends, revealing hobbies such as playing piano, her embarrassing inability to ski, and dislike of ghosts and anything that can't scientifically be explained.
